What you’d like to change through therapy
In my experience, many of the difficulties we face in life overlap with each other…
- Your confidence and self-esteem might have taken a knock after a life change like parenting, retiring or re-locating;
- You may have relationship difficulties because of abuse or bullying you suffered as a child;
- You feel anxiety about the future after a bereavement or other loss;
- Alcohol is what you use to relax, sleep or function, but it isn’t working and you want to stop;
- Living with chronic pain means your life isn’t what it used to be, so you feel depressed;
- You feel like you’ve lost your purpose after a break-up, job change or children leaving home.
You are unique, and your reasons for coming to therapy are unique too. That’s why I make our work specifically about your needs, and we work together to find out what works best for you.
I offer a free 15 minute phonecall for us to talk through the broad reasons why you are thinking about coming to therapy, and if we’re happy to go ahead, we can put in place arrangements that suit you.
As a registered BACP member, I follow their ethical guidelines, so if I think I don’t have the specific skills or experience you need, I do my best to give you suggestions for someone else who can help.
What I’d like to know about you…
I don’t believe you fit into a neat box or that a label is enough to describe how you feel. Instead of including a list of “problems” or “labels” of things that you might be struggling with, what I offer is a ‘whole person’ approach.
This means I’m interested in;
- your context,
- how your life matches with what you expected it to be,
- the challenges you’ve overcome to find youself where you are now,
- what difficulties you’re facing each day,
- the differences you’d like to see in your life etc.
There is a great deal of evidence to show that the most successful therapy works because of the relationship built between client and therapist, regardless of ‘how’ therapy takes place.
